MY BACKGROUND

"I was born and raised in Uganda. I grew up in the tumultuous period in the early 80s and 90s when HIV/AIDS was killing people. As an aected person whose parents happened to be victims of this deadly disease, I developed compassion for the young orphans left behind and always wondered how I could be of assistance. This inspired me to study social work. My immigration to America was inspired by two things. First was my tour in Iraq in 2008 where I worked alongside the U.S military forces during the Iraq war. I was touched by the stories of how the wars were aecting the service-members and thought about how best to help. Secondly, the persecution of the LGBTQIA people in Uganda was at its peak in 2008-2009 and I could not withstand the unfounded, ruthless, and public attacks against my character. I strongly believe in the sanctity of life and everyone needs an equal chance to live a fulfilled life."
